Website wants help to preserve Northern Beaches history
NORTHERN Beaches are being asked to contribute their stories and old photos to Woolgoolga Heritage Walk's accompanying website, an ongoing project which is expected to grow over time.
With construction of the town's Heritage Walk expected to begin in the next couple of weeks, the committee have launched a website which consists not only of information about the walk and its importance, but also a more comprehensive history of Woolgoolga.
It is now up and ready for viewing at woolgoolgaheritagewalk.org.
"The panels on the walk were limited to just a few sentences and images and as a result they can only touch on various aspects of Woolgoolga's heritage," committee member Norm Michener said.
"The website will continue to be updated as members of the community contribute additional information, stories, old photos and the like.
"Members of our working group don't claim to be experts and we recognize that history can be told from a number of different perspectives."
The Heritage Walk will see a series of plaques erected throughout the town.
These will describe its history and display photographs.
It is a joint project with Woolgoolga Rotary, Woolgoolga Lions and Woolgoolga and Northern Beaches Chamber of Commerce along with Coffs Harbour City Council and the State Government.
