Weapons map available on website

A DRAFT map of the Evans Head Air Weapons Range Defence Practice Area has been made available on the Defence Department’s Evans Head web page.

Air Commodore Mel Hupfeld, Commander Air Combat Group, said the draft map showed the land-based target zones, the existing no-go boats zone and the strafing safety trace.

“The map outlines the range areas that would be activated for practice bombing and also for strafing at Evans Head range,” AIRCDRE Hupfeld said.

“It is a draft map and makes up part of the review Air Force is undertaking into its future use of Evans Head range.”

“In mid-August Air Force will open a four-week public submission period where community members can provide feedback through the Evans Head web page on the ideal times the range should be activated,” AIRCDRE Hupfeld said.

As part of the review, F/A-18F Super Hornets from RAAF Base Amberley will make passes over the range from this week.
