Water polo: Irwin and Galbraith star in the pool

STRONG performances from Kisane Irwin and Ben Galbraith highlighted FNC water polo at Mullumbimby and Ballina this week.

At Mullum, Byron Bay and Ballina played a low-scoring, hard-fought game.

Both teams scored in the first quarter. Tough defence held both scoreless in the second and they went in at 1-all at half-time.

In the third, Ballina scored quickly to take the lead.

Byron responded with a strong counter-attack, then added another to lead 3-2.

A second goal from Irwin enabled Byron to stay ahead, her performance a big part of winning the game 4-2.

League leaders Alstonville Barry demolished an under-strength Mullumbimby.

Galbraith slotted two goals in the first quarter.

The team backed him and they led 6-0 at half-time.

Daniel Sawyer notched three goals from in close in the third quarter.

In the last, Barry scored at will, with Galbraith netting another two for the final scoreline to be 15-1.
