Water allocations announced

IRRIGATORS on the Northern Rivers will get all – or at least most or their water entitlements over the coming year thanks to good rain across the region.

NSW Water Commissioner, David Harriss today announced water allocations for water users in the Richmond and North Coast catchments.

Sources for the new 2011/2012 water year, said high security access licence holders in the Richmond Regulated water source would receive 1 megalitre per unit share of entitlement or 100 per cent of allocation, while general security licences holders would receive 0.9 megalitre per unit share or 90 per cent of their entitlement.

The NSW Office of Water said the Richmond catchment had continued to receive good rainfall since October 2010, raising storage levels. Inflows had been consistent since the start of 2011 with the dam currently at 100 per cent capacity.

Coastal rain patterns in recent months had resulted in most off-creek storages filling, which provided added security for irrigators and water for stock.
