Was it the ghost of Steve?

HE might have resigned from Parliament close to six months ago, but it seems the former Member for Clarence Steve Cansdell still has a presence.

During debate in the NSW Parliament last week the official record of parliamentary proceedings, Hansard, lists Mr Cansdell as voting with the government in support of a motion about the Kurri Kurri aluminium smelter.

Ironically, Mr Cansdell's successor, Chris Gulaptis, believes it may have been the first time he had to vote in Parliament and that vote was recorded wrongly.

"It's a bit of a dent to the ego, actually," Mr Gulaptis said yesterday.

"Steve's copped a couple of knocks to the head and had a few other bumps and bruises along the way.

"I thought they might have noticed the difference.

"It seems like it might be a bit like the Australian cricket team a few years ago - once you get in you'll never get out."

Mr Gulaptis was recorded correctly in the 'votes and proceedings' but not Hansard.

Hansard was expected to be corrected yesterday.
