Warwick to host judging of Miss Rodeo Australia

RODEO: Tori Rafton will represent the Warwick Rodeo in this weekend's judging for Miss Rodeo Australia (MRA).

She was runner-up and overall fund-raiser in the Warwick Rodeo Queen quest in 2014.

Erica Geppert was the 2014 Queen but due to other commitments will not carry on to the Miss Rodeo Australia judging.

Tori backed up to win the Warwick Rodeo Queen Horsemanship and Personality titles in 2015. The Warwick nominee always completes their Warwick Rodeo Queen commitments before contested Miss Rodeo Australia so this weekend's entrant is from the 2014 Warwick judging.

Warwick Rodeo Queen co-ordinator Kate Christensen said a support crew of 15 would back Tori at the two dinners this weekend.

"Tori has a really good chance due to the high quality of Warwick Rodeo Queen entrants and the training before and during the competition," Christensen said.

"She competes in campdrafting and cutting and is a very skilled horsewoman. Tori is dedicated to rodeo and if successful, will be a great ambassador for the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.

"Tori has a passion for encouraging and developing the skills of young women."

Tori is one of four nominees. Katy Scott will represent Cloncurry, Nikea Coulson is the entrant from Carrieton in South Australia and Daphne Tun will represent Darwin. Miss Rodeo Australia will win a trip to the Canadian Finals Rodeo as part of her prize.

The four cowgirls will each make speeches at Rupert's Bar and Grill on Friday night as part of the judging process and members of the public are welcome to enjoy the dinner and function. Tickets at Rupert's on 4661 2199.

At 7.30am Saturday, the horsemanship judging will start at the Warwick Showgrounds before the presentation night on Saturday at the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre when Miss Rodeo Australia will be crowned.

Tickets for the presentation night available from the APRA on 4661 8183.
