Wanderers all set for Oscar

FOOTBALL: Former Chelsea star Oscar will take on the Western Sydney Wanderers in the group stages of the Asian Champions League after he scored on his competitive debut for Shanghai SIPG in a 3-0 win over Sukhothai.

SIPG's ACL playoff victory means the Brazilian's Chinese Super League club will join the Wanderers, FC Seoul and Urawa Red Diamonds in Group F.

The 25-year-old, who Shanghai bought from the Blues for a reported $89 million, opened the scoring against Sukhothai.

In the 34th minute, teammate Odil Akhmedov picked out Oscar on the right-side of box before he struck the ball into the bottom left-corner of the goal.

It follows on from his first goal for the club in a 2-1 friendly win over Al Batin last month.

The Chinese side, who are managed by former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, went on to score two more goals.

Oscar also had a rabona chip on goal that crossed the line but was ruled out after a foul on the goalkeeper. He was substituted 10 minutes from the end of the match with the result secured.

Shanghai will play host to Tony Popovic's Wanderers on February 28 before Oscar's team will face Western Sydney at Campbelltown Stadium on May 10 in the final Group F match.
