Walker upgraded to chief executive of Richmond Valley

JOHN Walker has been given new four-year contract as Richmond Valley Council's chief executive.

Richmond Valley Mayor Ernie Bennett said the re-appointment of Mr Walker would provide for stability during a potentially difficult time with actions arising from the NSW Government's Fit for the Future program.

Cr Bennett said the council recognised the experience Mr Walker brought to the position and the sustained strong capability he continued to display.

"Council particularly values John's strategy development and implementation, as well as high-level advocacy," he said.

"He has put in place a high performing management team, and there are great opportunities ahead for him to mentor and support not just this team, but the whole workforce.

"On a professional level, I understand John is greatly enjoying his work with Richmond Valley Council and is looking forward to the challenges of reform."

Mr Walker's job title has been upgraded from general manager to chief executive officer.

This was in line with other councils across Australia.
