Walk to School Safely
Today, as national “walk to school day” I am moved to address the issue of the bureaucratic buffoonery that stands in the way of my children participating. My son attends a special school located in central Ballina next door to a Preschool. Neither the local council or the RTA are interesting in addressing the need for a school crossing allowing safe passage for the most vulnerable of students, very young and disabled pupils. It appears they see no good reason for our students having a pedestrian crossing on a high traffic road, surely our students safety should be an utmost priority, even as a school zone the signage is lacking. Why is it our kids are being overlooked, are they not important enough, are they not deserving? Is this a clear case of discrimination?
