Vote 1 for our fearless Freney and intrepid Iggy
WHILE golden girl Jacqueline Freney may have been overlooked for the 2013 Paralympic Sport Awards, she is in contention for another form of recognition: The Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Female Awards.
"Our" Jacqui took home eight gold medals from the 2012 Paralympics in London but missed the International Paralympics Committee nomination list for Best Female Athlete of the Year.
But she is one of the 10 semi-finalists in the Sports Star category of the FFF Awards.
In the awards, which have eight categories to honour strong and inspirational women from Australia, people vote online for their favourite female from each category.
Jacqueline's not the only Northern Rivers star nominated for an award either. Mullumbimby rapper Iggy Azalea has been nominated in the "singer" category.
"I was very excited and overwhelmed with the whole idea of (the FFF awards), because I know that quite a few well-known people have been announced as finalists," Jacqui said yesterday.
"To just be nominated is a whirlwind for me."
The Skennars Head swimming star said she was excited to have been put up among other "great women" who encompass the meaning of the FFF Awards.
"I do believe I encompass the meaning of the Fun Fearless Female Awards," Jacqui said.
"I'm a fighter and I believe in my abilities as a Paralympic swimmer.
"I've had to overcome obstacles to reach my goals and achieve my dreams: negativity, jealousy, phobias, injuries and medical conditions."
Jacqui said her main message was to believe in yourself, work hard, and don't rely on luck.
"I believe if you believe in yourself and your abilities, you can achieve your goals and reach your dreams," she said.
The Freney family said Australian Paralympic Committee chief executive Jason Hellwig had written to the International Paralympic Committee regarding the nomination process for the Paralympic Sport Awards.
The Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Female Awards voting closes on November 1.
