Man accused of home invasion

A MAN accused of taking part in a violent home invasion on the North Coast has been charged by police.

The 21-year-old man is accused of being part of a group of three men who forced their way into a home at Bilambil Heights about 9.30pm on June 24, attacking the 31-year-old resident with a beer bottle.

Police allege the three men forced their way into a Marana Drive unit after the 31-year-old answered a knock at the door.

“Once inside one of the alleged offenders assaulted the victim with a beer bottle, causing him to fall to the ground,” a police spokesperson said.

“The man was assaulted again while he lay on the ground and his mobile phone and an amount of money was taken by the alleged offenders before they left the location.

“Ambulance paramedics were called and attended the location and the man was treated for cuts and bruising.”

The 21-year-old man was arrested yesterday and charged with break and enter offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on August 22.

Police were still investigating the home invasion. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
