Vince tuned for Rivafest

AUSTRALIA’S leading jazz vocalist Vince Jones is looking forward to his concert in Ballina tonight.

But he hasn’t planned the finer details of the night, which is being held as part of Rivafest.

“I’m just going to make it up as we go along,” he said.

“We’ll just go with it on the night – see what happens and make it up on the spot.”

Mr Jones has never played in Ballina before, but he has heard good things about the town.

“Everyone I’ve talked to says Rivafest is a great event,” he said.

“It’s a lovely place and a lovely time of year to visit. I’m looking forward to it.”

His evening concert at Fawcett Park is going to be an ‘up close and personal event’.

Rivafest organiser Liz Shepherd said it was a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ to see one of the country’s best jazz musicians in action.

“You can still get tickets on the door,” she said.

“We chose him because his music is different to typical jazz.

“It’s offbeat, it’s contemporary and eclectic.

“You will go away from the concert feeling inspired. You take home something to think about – he’s thought-provoking.”

And Mr Jones is confident the crowd will enjoy the night.

“My band is full of beautiful players,” he said.

“We will play some beautiful songs, including some originals. There’ll be some new and some old music. We’ll mix it up.

“But people will definitely enjoy the playing.”

Also a trumpet player, Mr Jones will perform with Matt McMahon on piano, Simon Baker on drums and Brett Hirst on bass.

The concert will be held at Fawcett Park from 6.30pm until 10pm.
