US PRESIDENT Barack Obama has interrupted a speech on Obamacare  to help catch a pregnant, diabetic woman who was fainting behind him.

In a video making the rounds of the internet on YouTube, Mr Obama appears to take the incident in his stride, joking to the audience "this happens when I talk too long", as he supports the woman.

The woman has identified herself on Twitter as Karmel Allison, who has type 1 diabetes.

In the video, as Mr Obama is speaking, the woman begins to sway immediately behind him.

Others on the platform notice her condition and attempt to support her. Just as she is about to fall, Mr Obama turns and offers support.

"I got you, you're okay"  he says to the woman.

After Ms Allison is taken from the stage, Mr Obama appears a little rattled as he attempts to compose himself before continuing the speech.

The crowd encourage him with a smattering of applause before Mr Obama turns to the people behind him and says "good catch, by the way."

Ms Allison later took to Twitter to thank the commander-in-chief for the catch, saying: "I'm ok world- just got a little lightheaded. Thanks, @BarackObama for catching me! And good thing this pregnant diabetic is pregnant :)"
