Victory to give German time to settle in
MELBOURNE Victory coach Kevin Muscat says he will give new signing Max Beister all the time he needs to settle into his new surroundings before unleashing him on the A-League.
The 26-year-old German under-20 international (pictured) signed from Mainz last month and arrived just over a week ago.
He had not played much first-team football, so Muscat said it was a case of Beister getting his fitness levels higher before he gets a chance to debut for the club.
"We just feel that there are players ahead of him in terms of fitness. We won't put him at risk,” he said.
"You're coming into a team that has had three months of pre-season and 12 games, so you're behind the eight-ball.
"But he's lifted the intensity of players around him.
"There's been a reaction from Jai (Ingham), Mitch (Austin), Marco (Rojas) and these guys. He's making it hard.
"He's improved. He's been here for eight days. We estimated he was going to take a little bit of time.
"When the time is right, we'll make that decision.”
Beister played 44 games for Hamburg in the Bundesliga.
A productive spell on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf saw him hit the target 18 times between 2010 and 2012.
