Victim dragged from CCTV in vicious attack, police allege

A VICIOUS attacker who grabbed a man by the throat and punched him in the face handed himself into Byron Bay police last night.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the 20-year-old Lindendale man allegedly became aggressive outside the entrance to the Byron Bay nightclub La La Land.

"Police will allege that the victim was punched in the head by the man who was wearing a Beach Hotel RSA Marshalls shirt," Tweed-Byron crime manager Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said.

"The victim fell to the ground and it will be further alleged that he was dragged around the corner away from CCTV footage where the assault continued.

"After grabbing the victim around the throat, he was eventually released.

The victim was admitted and observed at the Byron Bay Hospital and was later released.

The attacker surrendered to detectives last night and was charged with affray and assault.

He will appear at Byron Bay Local Court on the March 21.
