Victim cremated as six charged with her rape

A YOUNG female victim of an horrific rape in India has been cremated, as police charged six men with her murder on Sunday.

The Times of India reported the 23-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving bus by six men before being thrown from the bus in New Delhi late last week.

In a final attempt to save her from the brutal injuries incurred during the rape, she was flown to a Singaporean hospital, where she died on Saturday.

Her body was flown back to New Delhi on Saturday, before being cremated during a private ceremony on Sunday.

The brutal rape prompted mass protests across India about the safety of women and human rights.
