VF Commodore SS-V Sedan: Enter the beast

THIS beautiful sedan you are looking at is the newly released, 2014 Holden VF Commodore SS-V Sedan, also known in the United States as the 2014 Chevrolet SS.

The VF Commodore is the long awaited successor for the VE Commodore, which was released in 2006. The differences between these two siblings include a 40kg weight loss, an increased engine displacement, more power and torque and an updated exterior and interior.

Under that metallic orange hood sits a 6.2 litre, 32 valve LS3 V8 engine that can produce up to 309 kilowatts (420 horsepower) and 563 Newton metres of torque (415 pound-feet of torque).

This is compared to the old VE, which has a 6.0 litre, 16 valve V8 engine that can produce 270 kilowatts (367) and 530 Newton metres of torque (391 pound-feet of torque).

Connected to the engine of this particular VF Commodore is a six-speed manual, which then sends all the power to the rear wheels. It also has a kerb weight of 1737 kilograms.

This allows this Holden to accelerate from 0-100 kilometres per hour in about five seconds flat, and it supposedly has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per hour).

This particular Holden VF Commodore SS-V Sedan is the only car they have built, which makes it the show car. Holden representatives have informed me that the production version will only slightly differ from this show car, with the only changes being little details.

Some other features that this 2014 VF Commodore SS-V show car is equipped with includes 20 inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile performance tyres, a rear lip spoiler, silver Brembo performance brakes, xenon headlights as well as daytime running LED's, fog lamps, quad sports exhausts, slightly flared wheel arches, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control and much more.

On the interior, you can find equipment such as a pop-up display which shows your speed and rpm, a button to start and stop the car, heavily padded side bolsters for added comfort and support, a leather and swede interior, an 8-inch touch screen with satellite navigation, Pandora, Holden's MyLink technology and much more.

The 2014 Holden VF Commodore SS-V Sedan will be on sale in mid-2013 for a base price of about $55,000-$60,000.
