I don’t care if this is next Vietnam: Veteran

AS Prime Minister Tony Abbott travels to Queensland today to farewell more troops to Iraq, one Vietnam veteran wishes he could be among the fold.

Caloundra's Dave Morgan, the author of My Vietnam War - Scarred Forever, says he "totally agrees" with Mr Abbott's decision to send soldiers to combat the Islamic State.

"It may cost many millions, but it is worth it to stop the people suffering in Iraq and Syria," Mr Morgan said.

"The people there are being displaced by an Islamic force that is most evil and I have seen a few in my time.

"There was Pol Pot in Cambodia and there was 9/11, but this mob (in Iraq) is one of the worst.

"They have already beheaded three innocent civilians. They even massacre their own.

"The western world has to do something.

"I totally agree with the Australian Government sending troops there and it doesn't worry me if this is the next Vietnam.

"This is a terrible regime. Years ago we were trying to stop communism. This mob is far worse.

"They have no respect for humanity, they don't respect human lives and it is only going to get worse.

"I was a regular boy and volunteered (for Vietnam) for service for my country. I joined when I was 18.

"Yes, if I was young, I would volunteer to join the army to go to Iraq."
