'Very proud' police officer killed
A POLICEMAN in NSW has been killed in a motorbike accident.
Sergeant Brian Kenny, from the Kings Cross station, was off-duty when he rode to the Blue Mountains on his motorbike this morning.
About 8.40am, the 63-year-old crashed into the back of a truck on the Great Western Hwy at Wentworth Falls. He died at the scene.
Kings Cross Superintendent Sue Waites said Sgt Kenny was known to his workmates as BJ and had served the NSW Police Force faithfully since taking up his first post in Darlinghurst in 1968.
She described Sgt Kenny as a "very proud" police officer and team leader.
"He will be dearly missed by all of the staff, past and present, that have had the pleasure of working with a gentleman of his calibre; he was our hero.
"The junior officers who have passed through Kings Cross are all the better today for having worked with BJ."
The 47-year-old truck driver was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory tests but was not injured.
