Vandals damage parts of Fripp Oval

POLICE are investigating vandalism at Fripp Oval at Ballina over the weekend, after fence palings were ripped down and a car was driven over the grounds.

Geoff Jacobs from the Ballina Bears Cricket Club said it was lucky that the grounds were fairly dry.

"It seems that the local hooligans have knocked down part of the fence and driven over the grounds and over the wicket," he said.

"It's an inconvenience.

"But we will have the grounds back up and running in time for play on Saturday.

"It's frustrating because we all put in a lot of time into keeping the grounds in good condition.

"The police have been informed and they seem to have some leads.

"You have to wonder why people do things like this ... they mustn't have anything better to do with their time."

Representatives from the cricket club will be down at Fripp Oval this week repairing the grounds in time for play on the weekend.

Mr Jacobs said it was fortunate that there hadn't been a lot of rain recently.

"The damage isn't as bad as it could have been," he said.
