NSW councils forced into amalgamation may cause job losses
THOUSANDS more jobs will be lost if NSW councils are forced into amalgamation, the United Services Union has warned.
Local Government Minister Don Page revealed to News.com.au over the weekend he supported a discussion paper which recommended councils across Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter region would benefit from "significant consolidation".
On Tuesday his stand-in, Robyn Parker, said the State Government was yet to make a decision.
USU General Secretary Graeme Kelly said the union would mount a campaign to prevent mergers from going ahead.
He said amalgamation would be "felt in living rooms across the state" and would place too much power into the hands of "very few people".
