Use the force for a good cause
DON'T be a rebel, join the Galactic Empire's forces this December, for a good cause.
In a move to improve its popularity ratings across the galaxy, Darth Vader's PR staffers have confirmed the Empire will be supporting a fundraiser event by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
Stormtroopers will be cheering cinema-goers - they may even sing Christmas carols - at a special screening of Star Wars - The Force Awakens, on Sunday, December 20 from 3pm at Birch Carroll and Coyle in Lismore.
Don't miss the pre-show nibbles, but with the catering coming express from Kashyyyk, the home planet of the Wookiee race, we suspect the nibbles may be a little 'Chewie'.
Expect Ham Solos with C-3-pea-Os served by Darth Waiter, Vader's not-so-successful cousin.
The film will be screening at 3.30pm. Tickets at $20 are available by calling the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter on 6627 4444.
Fundraising manager with the Westpac rescue helicopter, Zeke Huish, is hopeful the event will be a sold-out affair.
"When we heard about the new Star Wars movie coming out, we jumped at the chance to have some fun and host a special charity screening," he said.
"We will be having some special appearances on the afternoon by our friends at the Southern Cross Garrison who love to dress up as Star Wars characters, and we encourage anyone thinking of attending to do the same if they wish."
Also at Birch Carroll and Coyle in Lismore, local families can enjoy a sneak peek at the latest film featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the Peanuts gang.
An advance big-screen debut will be held on December 6 for $10 at selected Event Cinemas, with proceeds being donated to children's hospitals.
