KIDS are truly important in our community, especially when they are sick.

Over the past seven years the Our Kids Calendar fundraiser project has collected a large group of loyal followers, including local businesses, community workers, health workers and doctors.

So it was all smiles on Wednesday when Left Bank co-owner and Our Kids fundraiser Rebekka Battista announced the 2009 Our Kids Calendar and CD had raised more than $18,000 this year.

“The CD addition helped us raise the extra money,” Ms Battista said.

The money will help provide equipment in satellite hospitals such as Byron, Ballina, Casino and Kyogle.

“We are looking at their wish lists for sharing the money in areas that supported the calendar,” she said.

Helping celebrate were many of the children snapped by Northern Star photographer Jacklyn Wagner for the calendar.

All 12 children were given a framed print of their calendar page and a beautiful hand-made quilt, produced by Northern Rivers quilters.

These children had either spent time or are still having ongoing care at the special care nursery and children's ward at Lismore Base Hospital.

“We are now getting ready to launch the next calendar in November. The photos have been taken and the CDs are ready,” Ms Battista said.

The 2010 calendar will also feature a CD which includes the voices of five local high schools singing carols: Richmond River, Nimbin, Emmanuel, Kadina and Alstonville.
