Union urges TAFE teachers to vote 'no'

UNION chiefs are putting the pressure on TAFE teachers to reject the New South Wales Education Department's proposed salary restructure.

Teachers will have the chance to vote on an enterprise agreement in a secret ballot next week.

Negotiations between the union and TAFE management broke down over the weekend.

NSW Teachers' Federation President Maurie Mulheron has urged workers to vote "no" on the grounds the union fears the new agreement will jeopardise jobs and in particular, replace full time and part time casual teachers with "lower paid and less qualified" tutors.
