Girl accepts uni scholarship

ROSELEE TURNER ‘underestimated’ herself when she was accepted into university, so she was pleasantly surprised when she was awarded the Richmond Valley Council Mayoral Scholarship.

The 21-year-old is nearing the end of a tourism management degree at Southern Cross University in Lismore.

Since being awarded the scholarship, Ms Turner has worked as an intern at the Casino Visitor Information Centre, gaining the knowledge and experience she needs before embarking on a job-hunting expedition following her graduation in two months.

“I love the social aspect of dealing with tourists, who are really interested in what we have to tell them,” she said

“They are coming to ask my opinion and they want to hear the information I have to tell them, which is nice.

It’s great to be able to promote the area, too.”

Ms Turner hopes she can secure a tourism job on the Northern Rivers upon graduating.
