Unconscious surfer pulled from water at Byron Bay

UPDATE 3.50pm: A SURFER who was pulled from the water at Byron Bay unconscious and not breathing has been airlifted to the Gold Coast University hospital.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man who was pulled from the water near The Wreck, just before 3pm.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the man was winched up into the helicopter before being airlifted in a critical condition to hospital.

 

ORIGINAL REPORT: PARAMEDICS are conducting CPR on a male surfer who was pulled from the water at Byron Bay just before 3pm.

A Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the man was pulled from the water near The Wreck, unconscious and not breathing.

Police and paramedics are at the scene and the rescue helicopter has been tasked to assist.
