
Unconscious man pulled from the water at Byron Bay
UPDATE, 5.30pm: A MAN is reportedly in a critical condition after he was pulled from the water at Main Beach, Byron Bay, this afternoon.
He was originally taken to the Byron Bay Hospital for treatment, but the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is now airlifting the patient to the Gold Coast Hospital.
His exact injuries are unknown at this stage.
ORIGINAL STORY: A MAN in his 50s has been given CPR on a Byron Bay beach this afternoon after being pulled from the water unconscious and not breathing.
A Surf Life Saving NSW spokesman said lifeguards made a successful resuscitation on the beach, with paramedics continuing treatment before transporting the man to Byron Bay District Hospital.
An Ambulance NSW spokeswoman said the man had obvious head injuries and possible spinal injuries.
The Westpac Helicopter has landed in Byron Bay and remaining at the scene in case the man needs to be transferred elsewhere.
