Ultra-light search 'a mistake'

A SEARCH for a downed ultra-light around Coffs Harbour has been called off and written-off as a mistake.

A triple-zero phone call to police at about 10am claimed that an ultra-light was trailing smoke after a bang as the aircraft moved in the vicinity of Yellow Rock Road, Raleigh, before disappearing.

Emergency services, including a helicopter, rushed to the area but an extensive search failed to find any evidence of a crash.

Aircraft that were supposed to be in the area have been accounted for by police, while nearby smoke is believed to have been a hazard reduction burn.
