TWO Queensland families are one of seven teams starring in the upcoming new series of The Biggest Loser.

The eighth series of the reality weight-loss show, called The Next Generation, focuses on breaking the cycle of obesity and unhealthy habits passing from parent to child.

Parents and children will compete as pairs and for the first time in the show's history a team will win the title and grand prize money, rather than an individual.

Beaudesert-based father and daughter Richard and Amber Roach, originally from Coffs Harbour, are the blue team and Mackay's Sam and Jess O'Malley are the red team.

Both Amber and Jess are in their early 20's and want to feel confident about themselves again.

"I'm looking forward to feeling proud when I go shopping, to being a good role model to Mahlia (step daughter), marrying Laurence (fiancé) and looking beautiful," Jess said.

Both Sam and Richard want to become better role models for their families and build stronger relationships with their daughters.

At 53, WA's Mandy Martin is the oldest contestant while 15-year-old Todd Nester from Victoria is the youngest.

The series features a new house northwest of Sydney where the teams will live and train with personal trainers Michelle Bridges, Shannan Ponton and Commando Steve.

Former Olympian Hayley Lewis returns as host.

The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation will premiere on Channel 10 on Sunday March 17 at 7pm and then air Sundays through Tuesdays at 7.30pm.
