Two Northern Rivers pubs on violent list

DESPITE the number of violent incidents at licensed premises across NSW falling over the past year, two Northern Rivers venues remain among the worst in the state.

At Lismore's Cocktails Bar and Niteclub 14 instances of violence were recorded while there was 12 violent incidents Byron Bay's Cheeky Monkeys Restaurant and Bar.

Both venues come under the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing's level two classification requiring licensed premises that experience between 12 and 18 violent incidents a year to comply with strict guidelines.

Level two venues must adhere to the following restrictions:

No alcohol can be served 30 minutes before closing

No glass or breakable containers can be used after midnight,

A detailed incident register must be maintained

Alcohol time outs or free food and water for 10 minutes every hour must be offered.

The only Northern Rivers venue on a level two classification in June 2012, Byron Bay's Woody's Surf Shack, is no longer under the level 2 classification after a reduction in the number of violent incidents at the club.
