Motorcycle rider, 19, in crash was from Casino
UPDATE: THE 19-year-old motorcycle rider who was seriously injured in a crash yesterday afternoon is a Casino resident, police have said.
Richmond Local Area Command Inspector Doug Conners said the rider failed to notice a 3.5 tonne truck that had slowed down and indicated to turn left.
"(The rider) failed to see the truck slow and collided with the rear of the vehicle," he said.
Insp Conners said the injuries were serious but not life threatening.
He said alcohol and speed had been ruled out as factors contributing to the crash.
ORIGINAL: A 19-year-old man has been airlifted to the Gold Coast Hospital in a serious condition after colliding with a truck south of Kyogle yesterday afternoon.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was tasked to a motorcycle accident at 4.15pm.
Photos from the scene show the helicopter landed on Summerland Way, where the crash occurred.
Police and road ambulance were also on the scene.
The 19-year-old suffered head and abdominal injuries.
As a result of the incident, Summerland Way was closed to traffic for about two hours.
At midday on Saturday, the helicopter was tasked to another motorcycle crash.
The 50-year-old man sustained chest injuries as a result of the motorcycle crash which occurred at Woodenbong.
Local paramedics treated the patient and brought him to Woodenbong township where he was flown to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.
