Two may face trial over 1974 triple murder this year

TWO men accused of murdering a mother and her two daughters more than 40 years ago could face a trial later this year.

A six-week time slot has been pencilled in for November for a possible trial for Warwick man Vincent O'Dempsey, 77, and Torbanlea man Garry Reginald Dubois, 69, who grew up in Mackay.

Last year both men were committed to stand trial for the 1974 murder of Barbara McCulkin and her two daughters.

Mr O'Dempsey and Mr Dubois are also charged with raping the two young girls, then aged 13 and 11, and three counts of deprivation of liberty.

A committal hearing was held late last year, and at the conclusion, both men were committed to stand trial in the supreme court.

Their lawyers at the time indicated the men would plead not guilty to all charges.

Dates have been set aside for a possible trial at Brisbane Supreme Court in November, but this could change.

Their case will also be mentioned briefly in the Brisbane Supreme Court later this week.
