Two arrested then logging resumed

LOGGING on private property at Whian Whian continued yesterday after two protesters were arrested on Wednesday.

Police Inspector Wayne Crotty said two men were arrested on the property where the NSW Forestry Corporation had approved logging.

"A 44-year-old man from Bellingen and a 33-year-old man from Tasmania were arrested for remaining on enclosed lands," he said.

On Tuesday police from the Operational Support Group helped escort seven logging trucks to carry about 100 blackbutt logs from the site.

Logging resumed on Wednesday.

Protesters from the Crescent Moon Protection Group have staged action at the Whian Whian Rd site for the past two weeks, claiming environmentally sensitive areas were being logged.

Insp Crotty said it was unknown how long police would continue to maintain a presence at the site but they would remain as long as needed.
