TV star works with NORPA
A FACE you may know from the television screen has secretly been in town all week as part of an improvisation process for a new NORPA production.
Through NORPA's Generator program, this week has seen a busy week of workshopping and creative development here in Lismore for this new production, which has the working title of The Return, said NORPA artistic director and project director, Julian Louis.
"(It's been) a terrific week of exploration where we're looking at developing a story of suburban tragi-comedy," he said.
They've been exploring improvisation of the original idea with a "very exciting cast of performers," he said.
"The cast are really imperative to this process. We create (the shows) together through improvisation and physical theatre," Mr Louis said.
"That's one of the hallmarks of the Generator program."
They've just finished one week of workshopping, which will be followed by a second week this coming week, with another week of workshopping scheduled for the end of the year before showtime in 2014.
One of the actors who has been part of the creative team is Jonny Pasvolsky, currently on screens as Detective Peter Vinetti in Mr and Mrs Murder, alongside Kat Stewart and Shaun Micallef.
Jonny said there were a few reasons he decided to get involved in the project.
"The first reason was Julian himself, because I've worked with him in a theatre company before," Jonny said.
"Then he pitched the idea of this work, and I just thought, it sounds fantastic."
Jonny said they've been working hard all week, and he's looking forward to next week's work too, however he'll be taking a weekend break to attend the Logie Awards before heading back here to Lismore.
"To have those two worlds (TV and theatre work) happening at the same, I feel very fulfilled."
"Mr and Mrs Murder was perfect, working with Kat Stewart and Shaun Micallef, who are two extremely good actors in their own right but also with that comedic element, it's fantastic."
