TV shows put Evans Head in the spotlight

EVANS Head will feature in the top-rating Sydney Weekender television program.

Last Thursday a production crew from Channel Seven's Sydney Weekender program was in the town, filming beaches and the CBD, a segment at the Memorial Aerodrome Heritage Aviation Museum and the "local", the Illawong Hotel.

Show presenter Mel Symons and her crew were given a real treat at the aerodrome, with stunt pilot Paul Bennett providing a spectacular display of flying.

They also checked out the museum's "resident" F-111, which is on permanent display.

Also featuring in the show were Summerland Christian College students from Goonellabah.

They were on a camp at Camp Koinonia in Evans Head, and were called upon to act as "extras".

Sydney Weekender, now in its 20th year, is hosted by former Test cricketer Mike Whitney.

The segment on Evans Head is expected to air on July 19, although the date is yet to be confirmed.

The Evans Head Heritage Aviation Museum, Hotel Illawong and Richmond Valley Council combined forces with the North Coast Destination Network to bring the popular show's presenter Mel Symons and her crew to the Richmond Valley.

Evans Head also recently had a visit from Channel 10's Places We Go program. This is expected to air on May 31 at 4.30pm.
