More to BB's Ryan than TV frolics

THERE'S a lot more to Big Brother housemate Ryan Ginns than meets the eye, according to his family.

The 26-year-old graphic designer and surfer, born and raised in Mooloolaba, is sporty but also sensitive and intelligent, says his dad, Dez Ginns.

"Obviously we know Ryan better than anybody, so I don't expect any surprises from Ryan (while he's on the show)," Mr Ginns told The Daily.

"He's the all-together very intelligent but very caring gentleman. He considers everybody's opinions before he speaks.

"What they (the housemates) don't realise yet is that Ryan is extremely intelligent and extremely well-read. If there's something he doesn't know about then he resources it, studies it and makes his own opinion. If he knows somebody is making something up then he'll pull the facts out."

Mr Ginns is pleased with Ryan's teammate, cheeky footy-mad Melbourne native Travis.

"He's a great guy," he said.

"From the moment they met on stage I thought 'Oh my God this guy and Ryan are going to get on like a house on fire'."

Keeping up with five nights of the reality show each week is sure to take its toll on Mr Ginns and his wife Judy, but it's their only insight into Ryan's life in the Big Brother House.

"But you've got to be No 1 for Team Ryan.

"We're a pretty tight family, so for us as parents it's hard (having no contact with Ryan). I basically speak to our children every day."

After graduating from Matthew Flinders Anglican College, Ryan spent two years travelling through Europe and North America before returning home to take up a job in Sydney, where his three sisters Abbey, Hayley and Tegan also live.

Despite Ryan's being single, his dad reckons he won't strike up a romance in the house.

"I think Ryan may strike up a conversational infatuation with someone," Mr Ginns said.
