Turning breast cancer scars into beautiful tattoo art
IN a private home studio, Susan Moore is giving women who have battled breast cancer a new lease on life.
Ms Moore is a professional tattoo artist who has been practicing her art for over 22 years.
She is now using her art to changing women's lives.
"It was only after seeing a few really horrific mastectomies and realising the hidden, lingering trauma that breast cancer survivors live with that I identified a way in which I could reach out and use my art as a means of healing," she said.
"You see the suffering that goes on in the world and wonder about ways in which you can contribute to alleviating it.
"This is my way of giving back, my way of spreading a little more love into the world."
"There are so many women who have been really maimed by mastectomy surgery and do not have the money to afford corrective surgery or tattoo cover ups, that is why I have decided to offer free mastectomy scar cover ups to any woman out there who genuinely cannot afford to make herself feel whole and beautiful again."
Yvonne's breasts were transformed by Ms Moore in November and December last year.
She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2009 and has undergone no less than eight surgeries on her breasts, including a double mastectomy.
In October last year, which is the Breast Cancer Awareness month, Susan Moore offered a free tattoo cover up of a mastectomy scar to a woman who had been through breast cancer.
"A friend heard of the offer and nominated me," Yvonne said.
"Receiving the tattoos has changed my life.
"I feel more complete now; I have something really beautiful where once I felt ugly."
Yvonne said it had been a wonderful experience after fighting breast cancer as a sole parent and undergoing all the operations she had.
"Susan is such an incredible human being, she is so compassionate and sincere," she said.
"Her studio, which is based at her home is also private, which puts you at ease."
Ms Moore only works by appointment. I believe in giving my time completely for the client I am working on at the moment," Ms Moore said.
"As such I work without any distractions, no phone calls, and no walk-ins."
With over 22 years' experience as a tattoo artist, Ms Moore is a skilled and sensitive artist who does all styles of tattooing.
She does the breast transformations as her gift.
"My business name is my life motto; What does the world need? Moore Love."
