Turkey pointing finger at IS after suicide bombing

THE suicide bomber who killed 10 people in Istanbul's Sultanahmet tourist district on Tuesday has been identified by Turkish authorities as a 27-year-old Syrian and member of IS.

He reportedly walked up to a group of tourists about to visit the Blue Mosque and detonated the explosives.

At least eight of the 10 people killed and nine of the 15 injured were German.

Although no group had claimed responsibility - and Turkey's truce with Kurdish group the PKK was ended late last year - Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the bomber belonged to IS.

Shocking photos of several bodies on the ground in the square known as the Hippodrome were too graphic to publish.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the latest attack would deepen German resolve to fight international terrorism.
