Trump staffer calls misleading errors "alternative facts"

KELLYANNE Conway, a surrogate spokesperson for Donald Trump, addressed claims his administration has already been economical with the truth.

Interpreting press questions as attacks, the administration has already hunkered down.

Defending the easily disproved claims of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Conway appeared on NBC's Meet the Press where she told host Chuck Todd:

Don't be so overly dramatic about it, Chuck. You're saying it's a falsehood [...] Sean Spicer, our press secretary, gave alternative facts to that

There is (of course) already a derisive hashtag in response to this:

William Safire said you should "avoid clichés, like the plague".

For reporters covering ridiculous new-speak terms such as "post-truth", it's often laziness that leads them to term any act by a government as Orwellian.

Sometimes cliché is all we have, and in particular tyranny is often cliche.

"Alternative truth" is too close a statement from Nineteen Eight-Four's Ministry of Truth to be avoided.
