Truck driver hitchhikes to hospital after crash

A GROCERY truck driver has reportedly hitchhiked to hospital after crashing into a creek ten kilometres north of Proserpine early this morning.

Whitsunday police sergeant Barry Haran said the crash happened on the intersection of the Bruce Hwy and Gregory Cannon-Valley Rd about 2am.

"It looks as though he missed the bend... (the) road sweeps round to the right and he's gone straight down beside the bridge and plowed into the creek bank," Sgt Haran said.

"The cab was buried actually."

Sgt Haran said it appeared as though the driver, who was suffering from minor injuries, had then found his own way to hospital by hitchhiking.

The driver was heading south at the time.

The truck was expected to be removed early this morning.

There were no interruptions to traffic.
