Truck crash causes traffic chaos

BOTH lanes of the Pacific Highway near Woodburn were closed for more than three hours yesterday morning after a semi-trailer carrying timber rolled onto its side.

The accident happened about 7am at the McDonald Creek Bridge, just north of Woodburn.

Police believe the driver of the semi, a 33-year-old man from Wagga Wagga, may have fallen asleep at the wheel and over-corrected when the trailer wheels slid off the side of the road.

A NSW Fire Brigades HAZMAT team and Rural Fire Service volunteers attended the accident due to fears diesel fuel from the truck might contaminate the creek.

However, police said there was no spill. The truck driver was uninjured and the highway was reopened by 10.30am.
