Troy Grant named NSW Deputy Premier

FORMER police officer Troy Grant has been named New South Wales Deputy Premier and state Nationals leader.

The first-term Dubbo MP was elected unopposed following the shock resignation of former leader Andrew Stoner.

Mr Grant entered parliament in 2011 and was named Hospitality, Gaming and Racing Minister in April.

"The Nationals represent communities across this state, full of good honest people and as leader I am determined to fight for them," he said in a statement.

"I have long described myself as a son of regional NSW and there is no greater privilege for me than to lead the party I love and the communities I respect."

Mr Stoner stepped down on Wednesday for family reasons.
