Grandson jumps on Harley with granny for trip of lifetime

IT'S not often you see grandmother and grandson travelling the country together on a Harley Davidson, but that's exactly what Lynn and Jesse Whitty have just embarked on.

Spending five to six weeks, covering thousands of kilometres and several states, the Yeppoon woman said this would be her second ride with a group known as Rumble Riders.

The group travels the country each year, raising awareness of prostate cancer.

Lynn, a local taxi driver, said she went into the Rockhampton Harley dealership over nine years ago to buy a bike helmet, and walked out with a bike of her own.

"I just ride, I don't listen to music or anything," she told the Capricorn Coast Mirror last week, before heading to Warwick with Jesse on Sunday to start their journey across New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory.

"I've made a lot of friends from it. The Kimberly region would have to be a highlight for me.

"The roads up there are made for cruising on a bike, and the scenery is just breathtaking."

But Jesse, 16, wasn't sure what to expect of the trip.

"I haven't travelled very far yet so I'm looking forward to seeing different parts of the country."

Lynne said she hoped it would give her grandson an eye-opening experience to learn more about himself.

"It's not often you hear about a grandmother and grandson riding around Australia together on Harley," Lynn laughed.

"I'm not sure if I'll be doing another one yet, but the Breast Cancer Council was interested in one."

RUMBLE RIDERS

The pair will travel through to Albany, Perth, Broome, Katherine, Darwin, Mt Isa, Roma and more on their six-week trip
