Trinity swimmers get to dive into knowledge of Olympians
OLYMPIC gold medallist Melanie Schlanger and Chris Wright were guest speakers at a Trinity Swimming Club training session in Lismore.
Schlanger won gold as part of the 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2012 London Olympic Games while Wright came 11th in the 200m butterfly.
She also won a gold medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The pair are now married and talked to the local swimmers about development, goal setting and hurdles they may encounter on the way to the top.
Trinity was awarded the visit on the back of its recent success in the pool, having nine finalists at both the Queensland and New South Wales swimming championships.
The open girls freestyle team of Samantha McKenna, Karla Gilmore, Jemma Cooper and Georgia Callaghan finished in the top 10 at the Queensland Swimming Championships against swimmers from Olympic teams in China, Japan and Queensland High Performance clubs.
Trinity is now preparing for the NSW Country Championships at Homebush in April.
A team of more than 20 swimmers have qualified and will be attending.
Trinity is the current Speedo Country Championship Club and has excelled in every age group at recent school carnivals.
