FRIENDS and family are mourning the death of Doris Wibowo, the Sydney tourist who tragically lost her life when a charter boat capsized during a storm off Whitsunday Island on Tuesday.

Ms Wibowo's partner spent all of Wednesday searching for her but instead had to identify her body after it was found by police divers around 6pm that day.

Ms Wibowo's body was in the hull of the vessel, Rapture. It is believed some of the 10 charter boat passengers and two crew took refuge in the cabin of the vessel during the severe storm.

Those on board were thrown into the water when the boat overturned.

On Facebook people have been writing messages of condolence to Ms Wibowo's family and posting tributes to a friend who will be missed.

A family member posted yesterday that he would never forget her, "Time passes so fast... I can believe but can't forget... though you have gone; your dreams and spirit are with all of us... we all miss you so much..."

Her partner, who was holidaying at Hamilton Island, is still there and it is believed Ms Wibowo's mother is on her way to the island as well.

Mackay police Inspector Andy Graham said yesterday morning investigations into the cause of the incident were already underway.

"Police have already taken statements from people on board and Maritime Safety Queensland will be in charge of hoisting the vessel out of the water," Insp Graham said.

The Rapture was successfully lifted out of the water by noon yesterday.

Insp Graham praised the work of the crews who helped in the search operation.

"Given the poor weather conditions and the short time frame we would not have been able to conduct... such a thorough search without the help we received," he said.
