Trawler breaks down near bar

A TRAWLER which broke down near the Richmond River bar at Ballina this morning was rescued by another trawler.
The incident occurred just before 11am.

It is understood that the trawler's motor broke and a second trawler came to the rescue, hooking up ropes in an attempt to tow it back to the harbour.

However the rope snapped and the trawler got close to the rocks of North Wall before crews were able to reconnect ropes and the trawler could be dragged out of the danger zone.

The trawler was safely taken inside the mouth of the river on the second attempt.
