Rain creates havoc on Lismore roads

A TEENAGE P-plate driver from Rous Mill suffered serious leg injuries yesterday when he crashed his car into a tree and power pole on Lindendale Road at Wollongbar.

The accident occurred at 7.20am about 500 metres from the Bruxner Highway.

NSW Ambulance paramedics from Lismore transported the 18-year-old man to Lismore Base Hospital with fractures to his tibia, fibula and femur bones in both legs.

The man was trapped in his vehicle for close to an hour as police rescue workers, ambulance officers and members of the SES and Rural Fire Brigade worked to release him.

Steady rain was falling at the time of the accident, which occurred on a slight bend at the end of a long, straight stretch.

Country Energy was called to the scene of the accident because there were concerns the impact may have damaged the power pole and power supply.

Another road accident occurred in Goonengerry at 1pm yesterday. An ambulance was called to assist a 41-year-old woman injured in the two-car crash.

Both vehicles involved had to be towed from the scene.
