Transfield Services signs Nauru contract

THE Federal Government has signed a $175 million one-year contract with the company Transfield Services to provide accommodation and other operational services at the refugee processing centre on Nauru.

The contract, tipped to be made in September last year, was officially announced by Transfield Services on Tuesday.

Under the one-year contract, the company will provide accommodation, maintenance, cooking and cleaning facilities, clothing and linen, food and catering, transport and security services at Nauru.

While the contract is for one year, it contains provisions for an additional one-year extension.

Other services provided at the centre include case management by the Salvation Army and International Health and Medical Services, which looks after the medical needs of detainees.
