Only 15, but dedicated Aidan already an Aussie swimming star
AIDAN Yourell is 15 years old and swims for Richmond Valley Swim club.
Over the past four months Aidan has been competing for both school and Swimming Australia at state and national level.
Aidan is currently training six to eight times a week as a multi-class swimmer, under Coach Michael Freney.
Aidan has achieved many milestones over the past few months, here are a few of them:
March 2015, CHS State Swimming: Aidan was named the 16 to 19 year old Male Multi Class swimmer of the Meet. Aidan broke the Australian S10 15-year-old 100m backstroke record coming away with multiple medals.
April 2015, Georgina Hope Age Nationals: Silver in the 100m butterfly with a huge personal best time, silver in the 100m backstroke, bronze in the 50m butterfly and had personal bests in all 9 events swum at the carnival, placing in the top five for eight events. Aidan broke his own Australian record in the 100m backstroke.
May 2015, All schools state carnival: Wins two gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals. As a result of his performance, Aidan will represent NSW Schools at the Pacific School Games in November in Adelaide.
May 2015: Aidan has been named in the 2015 NSW Multi Class Development Squad through Swimming NSW.
I am very proud of my son and what he has achieved over the past few years, he has shown us all that no matter what life throws at you, you can overcome anything.
I would also like to thank the Evans Head community for getting behind Aidan and helping to achieve his dreams, without the fundraising help of the community over the past few months, getting to all these carnivals in Sydney would of been a huge financial drain.
The Evans Head Bowlo, Riverfront Kiosk and SilverSands Caravan park have been very generous with donations, recognising that Aidan works hard to achieve his goals.
Aidan is also a volunteer life guard and volunteers for water safety at nippers at the Evans Head/Casino Surf Club.
