Fewer overseas tourists but they're hanging out for longer

THE number of international visitors continued to drop into the first months of this financial year, but those who do visit the region are staying for longer.

Research released by Tourism Queensland showed a 22% increase in the number of nights international tourists stayed on the Fraser Coast in the year to September.

The figures also showed a 3% drop in the number of visitors overall.

The drop is much smaller than previous quarters and is no longer the largest drop reported across the state.

One of the Fraser Coast's biggest markets, the United Kingdom, showed an increase of 9.4% in the number of visitors to the area with a total of 32,000.

There was a further 58,000 visitors from Europe to the Fraser Coast and 12,000 from North America.
